MORFLEX MSC
MONOSTEARYL CITRATE

Monostearyl Citrate (MSC) is a mixture of mono- and distearyl citrate esters which show utility as an oil-soluble chelating agent. The long carbon chains render it soluble in a variety of oils while the free carboxyl groups confer the chelation effect.

In many cases the shelf life of oils may be poor owing to the presence of trace amounts of metals such as iron. In these cases MSC serves as a stabilizer through chelation of the metal.

In other cases poor shelf life may result from other causes in addition to the trace metal. In these cases MSC may act synergistically with an antioxidant to stabilize the oil. The suggested use level is in the range of 0.2 - 0.5%.

In addition to the chelation effect there are a number of other possible uses for stearyl citrate mixtures as indicated in the Code of Federal Regulation Vol. 21 noted below:
