VEctomer® Vinyl Ether

VE 4051 Monomer

  Composition

  VE 4051 - vinyl ether terminated cycloaliphatic aromatic ester monomer: CHMVE terephthalate;

  bis [[4-(ethenyloxy) methyl] cyclohexyl] methyl] terephthalate

  Molecular weight = 470.61

  Formula: C28H38O6

  CAS # 209072-72-0

Description

VE 4051 divinyl ether is a low melting solid ester monomer. It is useful for coatings and particularly for powder coating applications. It produces high modulus polymers that show high chemical and water resistance.

Under carbocationic conditions it reacts with other vinyl ether oligomers and monomers. It also can be used in free-radical initiated polymerization reactions with acrylates. The low melt viscosity VE 4051 monomer can be incorporated in acrylate/epoxy and/or vinyl ether/epoxy coating systems.

Product/Application Benefits

  • Fast cure speed
  • Improves handling/friability
  • Increases water resistance
  • High modulus builder and high temperature resistance

Processing

VE 4051 vinyl ether is a white solid that melts to a colorless liquid at temperatures in the range of 85-110°C. The melt also undergoes rapid refreezing upon cooling. The refreeze temperatures and enthalpy changes of VE 4051 are shown below:

High Temperature Resistance

The VE 4051 is also a material of choice for applications requiring high temperature resistance. DMTA shows that the cured VE 4051 has a high glass transition temperature (Tg ) equal to 156°C:
